Staying afloat

One more week with three full workouts. Not yet reached my goal of four that I used to before the vacation. I am happy because this is the third week with 3 days in the Gym at full capacity.

I had earlier mentioned about my neck discomfort. I changed the height of my chair so that my neck was not strained while I work on my computer. I also changed my pillow and overall, I see great improvement. I have also placed an order for a new computer desk that I think will help me have a better posture because I spend 7 hours a day in front of the computer. I make it a point to get up and move every 30 minutes.

Next week I plan to do four full workouts but move to 12 rep sets in order to shake up the routine and also aim for a bit of hypertrophy. I took measurements to check where I am at and was quite disappointed to see that I lost half an inch on my biceps but was a bit heartened that I gained 1 inch on my shoulder. My joy was short lived because I had gained 5 inches on my waist.

Here is the problem that I see with life. I may work real hard, forgo all the nice food and can still be hit by a bus and die. On the other hand, if I give in to my cravings then the work out sessions combined look like two steps forward and one step back. I am running just to stay in place!!!

I plan to take a couple of vacations this year and would like them to be all included resorts. I would not like to avoid the tempting drink on the beach or the breakfast buffet or the local food. The truth is that all the slim and fit glamorous people we see on the big screen have an army of people working hard to make them look that good using all kinds of technical wizardry, prosthetic and hard core gym workouts.

In real life, we are on our own and the only thing we have is the gym and our will power to keep fighting to stay fit and get better every day. We should just remember that we deserve to have fun every once in a while even though getting back on track is going to be darn hard. After all, we have only one life to live.
